So I really can't understand what the problem is here, would appriciate some more experienced eyes. TexStudio and MikTex are all up to date, I found templates of other Universities online and they compile without a problem, as do my CV and cover letter. First I get lots of errors about a longtabu environment, if I delete this table completely, then I get bunch of other errors and it still won't compile. (In fact, I think this is why TeXstudio was forked from TeXmaker to begin with.) The 'Auto-recompile document on changes' features is also nice. ( Link) I open "thesis.tex", set it as explicit root document (or not, tried both) and try to compile. TeXstudio has a public bug tracker, unlike TeXmaker, and the devs are much more receptive to suggestions from the community compared to TeXmaker. So I started writing on Overleaf, but now the project got fairly big on size with all the Tikz images and Overleaf usually times out or says the project size is too big and won't compile unless I delete some of the images. The problem is though, that this template is refusing to be compiled on TexStudio or TexMaker locally, whereas it complies without a problem on Overleaf. After installing the development versions of Qt, Poppler and Phonon (latter two optionally), there are various ways to compile it: You can call 'mkdir build cd build cmake. My faculty has a latex template to help students format their theses, so I am obviously using that. You can run and debug texstudio with qtcreator Linux Compiling on Linux is very easy, because you can find all needed libraries in your package manager. Except for my CV and Cover letter that I use for applications, this happens to be my first project in Latex, so I am kind of a newbie. So I am in the process of writing a small research project for my studies. Obligatory: My very first thread on reddit, please excuse formatting and/or mistakes and also not a native speaker, please excuse the language.
